CHALLENGE

Toronto lacks community hubs for young artists and designers to get together and meet people in a no-pressure environment. This is not “networking,” this is becoming familiar with your community.

INSIGHT

Running a publication lets us reach many different forms of media and practices under one roof, connecting the creative community of Toronto as a whole.

OPPORTUNITY

Physical media is once again on the rise and is appreciated for its novelty. We are a team of four with stark differences in our backgrounds and interests, but we all appreciate art and design.

IDEA

Create a publication that showcases only young, emerging artists so our content feels relatable and accessible, while also hosting large launch events so the submissions, interviewees, and audience can connect.

My main role in this project is Art Direction.

Context:

Class Favourite Magazine began in 2022 as a team of 4 from a shared interest in starting a magazine that showcased youth-made art. After three issues, we’ve decided to expand our content to include more theory and written works about topics that we personally engage with, rather than primarily publishing visual art. Driven by the same founding principles of community and accessibility, the magazine will be released monthly, both digitally and in print. Class Favourite is now screenprinted in-house in a limited quantity monthly and mailed to our readers who can subscribe from anywhere in the world. Its content is now fully uploaded here on our website, and you can access the PDF version of the print here.

As always, our goal is to prioritize content and design that excites us and reflects our understanding of the culture we experience. We accept and welcome submissions from artists of all disciplines and hope that our digital and print platforms will broaden the media we can feature.
